Mick McCarthy is never one to dabble in statistics.
So it was with a deep breath that it was pointed out to him that Preston, Wolves' hosts tomorrow night, are unbeaten at home in midweek league fixtures for over seven years.
Indeed it was back in February, 2001, that the North Enders were last defeated under floodlights on home soil, 2-0, by Blues.
McCarthy took the 'stat' in good heart.
"So they haven't lost at home for over 100 years..." he remarked, deadpan.
"I don't think that will have any bearing on tomorrow night."
McCarthy once again cut a relaxed figure at this morning's pre-match press conference, the first time he has faced the media since his post-match bust-up with Gary Breen after the concession of a last minute equaliser against Southampton.
That matter was once again touched on, with the manager offering "no apologies" and wondering just how people thought characters like he and Breen should react to such a crushing disappointment.
"Should it be, o-k then chaps, let's just discuss how we've thrown away two points with almost the last kick of the game?
"Of course not. Rightly or wrongly it was the actions of two people who were just sick at what had just happened, because they care so much."
That last-gasp leveller denied Wolves the chance to break their Southampton jinx now stretching to 17 games and 28 years.
Next up the Preston version......
