Wolves DePreston
1. Geez it was windy. And wet. But at least the game got played. Not that Wolves will be too happy about that this morning.
2. Preston have had excellent press facilities over the last couple of years - a nice, spacious lounge complete with excellent catering. Last night it was back to the broom cupboard of a few years previous. And why? Because the Preston 'WAGS' have commandeered the former press lounge for their social use. Preston's press office, to their credit, made light of the developments. But just what is the world coming to?
3. Preston's PA announcer. Describing local rivals Blackpool's ground as Gloomfield Road before quickly correcting it to Bloomfield was neither funny nor clever the first time. Let alone the second or third. Imagine Wolves' PA announcer talking about, 'the Poorthorns'? Unprofessional.
4. Referees. It's not the main reason behind Wolves' last two results but for the second successive game they were on the end of a ridiculous penalty decision. Yes refereeing is a tough and thankless task but surely they can get the basics right? Little wonder Mick McCarthy visited the referee's room after the game to deliver his verdict in an "articulate and polite" manner!
5. The Wolves crowd. Wasn't pleasant viewing bar a ten-minute spell after half time but they didn't turn. Instead just departed quietly. Fair play to them for that and rest assured, that sort of silence can speak a thousand words and displays them in a better light than any moans and groans.
6. The Wolves players. Not exactly flavour of the month among their brethren at the mo but all diligently obliged the scores of autograph hunters as they made their way to the coach. And Gary Breen and Karl Henry both spoke eloquently amid their latest dose of disappointment.
For me, after a somewhat breezy journey back down the M6 before getting cracking on the work it was eventually lights out at 3.30am. Part of the job, but it can be difficult seeking inspiration at the end of a 21-hour day! Mustn't grumble though....
