Taking the Mick.....

By Paul Berry on Feb 11, 08 06:30 PM

Any Wolves fans with any fears about the ability under pressure of Mick McCarthy - or indeed those who actually want to see him depart Molineux - would have seen such thoughts dashed by the manager this morning.

McCarthy was in relaxed and good form at his morning press conference, and nothing was going to put him off his stroke.

Not the presence of a photographer taking his picture, an unusual event at a run-of-the-mill press conference, nor even questions about his relationship with owner Steve Morgan.

When the formalities were complete it was left to the press to actually inform Mick that one of his Championship colleagues, Iain Dowie, had been sacked by Coventry.

Amid his sympathy for Dowie and assistant Tim Flowers, the irony wasn't lost on the Wolves boss, who proceeded to start practising his golf swing.

"Tell you what," he said with a smile. "With someone here taking my picture and asking questions about Steve Morgan I'll probably be on the golf course with Iain and Tim by this afternoon...."

I was one of those fans who didn't want McCarthy in the first place but said lets give him a chance. Yes last season they did over achieve a we bit , but look at the performances of certain players , Micheal Gray ex Sunderland poor, Stephen Elliott ex Sunderland not very good ,Gary Breen ex Sunderland injury prone & getting on a bit but has been missed, Jody Craddock ex Sunderland improved no end to when he first came to the club but again prone to errors & getting on a bit, Neil Collins ex Sunderland CRAP ,Kevin Kyle ex Sunderland , god he couldn't even get into the Sky Blues team ,if my memory serves me right all these listed players were members of the worst Premier side of all time.
Of the rest of the team Matt Jarvis has started to come good ,Jay Bothroyd got talent but Idle & obviously doesn't care as long as he is picking up his wages, Olifinjana has dipped in form but keeps getting picked Rob Edwards makes too many mistakes Stephen Ward & Andy Keogh out of sorts. Why not swallow your stubborn pride Mick & pick FREDDIE EASTWOOD & give him a run.The strikers are not getting service or support from midfield because the midfield are having to help out the defence which is what needs strengthening not the striking dept. also what is wrong with Mark Davies , good enough for England but not McCarthy ,Daniel Jones is another outstanding talent , maybe if they had played for Ireland or Sunderland they might get a look in. These are some of the reasons that McCarthy should have a good hard look at himself & also that clipboard waving idiot that is Terry Connor

Hi Roger and thanks for your input. Some interesting points.

Clearly this season has not gone anything like what people hoped for and I don't think Mick McCarthy would even argue with that.

The point I was hoping to make in the "Stop moaning" piece was just for people to try and give it one last push for the last couple of months of the season rather than creating the sort of negative atmosphere that has been evident at several home matches lately.

Sitting in press boxes during the Premiership season and last season - and to be fair in the majority of away matches this season - it's great to see and hear the Wolves fans being so supportive. Robbie Dennison, who now summarises on radio, says that sort of backing does make a genuine difference and I'd trust his opinion a lot more than mine!

Clearly fans aren't happy and to a large extent rightly so. But I just thinking leaving all the post mortems until the summer is best for all concerned. If Wolves finish up 12th in the table then clearly that isn't good enough but it's not happened yet, there's still a chance of making a late run.

I think Freddy Eastwood is a real mystery. He hasn't had more than two successive starts since August and he does seem like the sort of player who needs a little run to really get going. It appears that Mick doesn't want to give him that run for whatever reason.

Just on Mark Davies, he's still injured. Spoke to him earlier this week and he's hoping to be back in training soon. A real shame because he's just the sort of midfielder I think has been missed this season.
