A postcard from... 2 venues

By Chris Lepkowski on Sep 27, 08 11:36 PM

POSTCARD 1. The Riverside

- Miller. Okay so he missed three chances, two of which he should have passed. But, importantly, he's still willing to take on the challenge of scoring goals. Would you rather have a striker who tries? Or one who simply cannot be bothered with football and prefers to live a footballers' life, without actually earning his money?

- The defence. Not often I'll say this but to a man all five (inc Carson) were excellent. Donk was a little fidgety at first, affording Alves too much room, but he improved. Zuiverloon, Olsson and Robinson were outstanding. And if there's a better English keeper than Carson right now then let's see him.

- Kim. He turned to receive a ball inside the opening 30 seconds. He went down. It didn't look good.

- Top half of the table? 10 points from the opening seven games would be an outstanding return. And, don't forget, Andy Johnson is suspended following today's sending off. You can't appeal two yellow cards...even if he wanted to.

POSTCARD 2. Match Of The Day

- Yes Kim did go off injured after one minute. He suffered a bad knee injury. Where was it?

- His replacement Sherjill MacDonald was subbed at half-time.

- Miller missed three one-on-ones, as opposed to the two (MOTD missed the best of the three when Bednar was unmarked).

- The double save from Carson in the second-half. It wouldn't have counted. The flag was up. MOTD, for some reason, missed this.

- Villa v Sunderland, United v Bolton, Stoke v Chelsea? Really, were there any surprises?

- Good to see Stevie Wonder taking time out from his tour to help out in the editing suite of Match of the Day. Perhaps he was on a work experience placement. Word to the wise to those at football's flagship TV show, fans don't want to see Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer looking at each other wondering what to say. Actions, not words. No words, but action. Get it?

Roll on the day that ITV finally get the contract...

Prefer MOTD-2 on sunday evenings. Hansen takes
himself far to seriously & didn't get the humour
when he was on MOTD2 last week (why ask him on?)
Miller should've squared the first one for
Bednar & the last one for Valero, but the one
he missed he was right to take on his own (he'd
have put that away last season). He just needs
a flukey goal to get him firing again. Bednar
should've squared the ball to Cech for a tap-in
also in another attack which MOTD decided not to
show. Brilliant win nonetheless, just a pity
about Kim's injury!

Sorry. Ishmael Miller MUST put the needs of the team before personal glory.

Yes he's anxious to open his scoring account but his sheer SELFISHNESS left AlSion fans 'screaming in frustration when he REFUSED to square the ball to unmarked colleagues in CLEAR scoring positions.

But a great win thanks to a tremendous defensive display and in Olsson and Donk we appear to have a solid centre back pairing.

Cheer up Terry. We've won.

I'd sooner have a striker who busts a gut (Miller) over a striker who doesn't seem interested (mentioning no names).

Surely you can't be referring to the Mr Moore the striker who scored three Premiership Hat tricks for Aston Villa before moving to the Hawthorns!?

Please reassure me on this issue!!!!

Terry i dont know which reference books youve been consulting but Luke Moore has only scored one Premiership hat-trick and that was against Middlesbrough. He did however get one against the mighty Wycombe.
I hope to god Terry that you're not spouting such rubbish on the radio. Ishmael Miller is 10 times the player that Luke Moore ever will be,

All for Miller having a going and trying his best, but missing 3 sitters isn't what we need at this level. I'd like to see Moore given a go ahead of Miller, even though i'm not a fan of his, just so we can see what our most expensive striker has got to offer.

As for MOTD, yeah the coverage is not great, but go back to ITV, please no, pleeeeeeeeease no! Who will be on the panel? the dream team of Robbie Earl, Townsend and Hasselbank? Plus all those adverts, no way!

My original comment was submitted with tongue firmly in cheek. Note the concluding exclamation marks !!!

Re Moore's Hat tricks. I picked this snippet up when glancing through a bevy of daily papers while standing in a City Centre store so i can't pinpoint the offending tabloid that supplied the obvious misinformation.

Hey! I actually agree that Miller looks best suited to do a job for the Baggies but then, to quote igorbalis "I'd like to see More given a go ahead of Miller, although I'm not a fan of his, just so we can see what our most expensive striker has to offer"

You see it's all a matter of personal opinion when judging ANY players potential.

Me? I WOULD start with Miller but you won't get me, and i suspect many others, to change opinions on his selfish attitude at the Riverside, which although Tony Mowbray could appreciate due to Ishmael being a striker, did lead to him pointing out "If he'd been waiting for a simple tap in then he'd be frustrated as well"

Also bear in mind that Ishmael himself apologised to both Roman Bednar and Borja Valero for his palpable misjudgement in the situations that could have cost Albion dear.

As for Fulham on Saturday i'll conclude thus.

"Come on you Miller/Moore Baggies"
Cheers

Terry.

The last time ITV had the contract, it was shit; like they are, and always will be.

The head of sport at the time had absolutely no idea about reacting to the action on the day: Farmer was his name, I believe.

Wonder what he's doing now?
