The Kevin Phillips saga - what's going on?
No doubt you'll have seen today's story, in another newspaper, which states that Kevin Phillips is off to Wigan Athletic or Derby County because he has rejected Albion's contract offer - even quoting a source close to the player.
Yet I witnessed Phillips' reaction down the training ground this morning when he read the story in the tabloid newspaper.
And the immediate reaction was one of surprise, followed by some head-shaking and a denial of all knowledge.
Albion, incidentally, also denied it.
Make of that what you will.
Truth is that Phillips may re-sign for Albion, he may not. But talks are very much on-going and will continue over the coming days and weeks.
Nothing has been decided. Nothing has been rejected or accepted.
So there you have it.
The story is that there is no story.

You have to assume that Derby and Wigan have had let it be known that they'd love to sign him...hence giving story-starved sports journalists a 'non story'.
BTW Chris, reading your article on Mowbray going for young talent, I noted your professionalism when describing Kevin Campbell, Steve Watson, Nigel Quashie and Riccy Scimeca as having mixed success!
Reading those names now and it's apparent just how far we have come on as a club since Mowbray joined. Credit to Megson for getting us in a position to yo-yo between divisions for a while as that's what you need to do initially, but Mowbray has to take all the plaudits for getting us into this position with a squad and style befitting both the Premiership and the supporters that pay good money to watch the Baggies week in week out.
Credit to Robson for being a great ex-player (nuff said).
Credit to Bryan "Mebbes" Robson for signing Kevin Philips. At least he got one thing right.
