The Brogan brothers.

By Brian Halford on Apr 26, 11 06:20 PM

CLOSE: Warwickshire 345 for 7 (96 overs). Woakes 16, Best 0.

Three wickets for Brathwaite as the shadows were lengthening over Lumley Castle evened things up a bit but it's still advantage Warwickshire, just.

Clarke clubbed a smashing 49 (52 balls) and hit Onions for two sixes. Ambrose fenced at one he might have left and perished first ball. Troughton's admirable 75 came to a conclusion, agonisingly for the skipper, just ten orbs before the close.

Woakes, in for a potentially awkward 20 minutes, batted with considerable aplomb. Best, in his first championship innings, did all that was required from him and now has a chance to have a dart tomorrow at the highest score ever by a Warwickshire number nine - 147 by Neil Smith against Somerset at Taunton in 1998.

Much to his Mum and Dad's dismay
Horace ate himself one day.
He didn't stop to say his grace,
He just sat down and ate his face.
"We can't have this his Dad declared,
"If that lad's ate, he should be shared."
But even as he spoke they saw
Horace eating more and more:
First his legs and then his thighs,
His arms, his nose, his hair, his eyes...
"Stop him someone!" Mother cried
"Those eyeballs would be better fried!"
But H. was on his second course:
His liver and his lights and lung,
His ears, his neck, his chin, his tongue;
"To think I raised him from the cot
And now he's going to scoff the lot!"
His Mother cried: "What shall we do?
What's left won't even make a stew..."
And as she wept, her son was seen
To eat his head, his heart, his spleen.
And there he lay: a boy no more,
Just a stomach, on the floor...
None the less, since it was his
They ate it – that's what haggis is.

Morning Brian,

Are we just ahead on points at this stage ?

Quite overcast here in Midlands. Lets hope we can rack up another 70/80 this morning and then let Woakes weave his magic.

Jimmy Case was a real footballers name.

Hi Beatie. Yes, advantage Warwickshire, just, despite those late wickets. If the Bears can get to 400 this morning Durham will be under pressure.
Aye - Jimmy Case. An enforcer in the Percy Freeman mould.

Just finished the new book on the great Frank Foster. I let the author have a letter I have of Franks when he lived in London.

A brilliant read. I'd urge all Bear fans to buy it.

I trust will have another Year of the Bear when we win the Championship this year ?

I hope one will need to be written, Beatie, but I don't think I'll be the one writing it.
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree about the Frank Foster book. A great read indeed.

Keep up to date
