Imran strikes
Essex 150 for 8 (60 overs). Masters 33, McGain 0.
Tahir, having not been employed beyond fielding duties for 80 minutes, comes back on to bowl and in his second over ends Walker's 165-minute vigil via a Clarke catch at slip. Walker scored 39 from 111 balls with just one four and one six.
Carter has a sore calf/achilles.

If Warwicks lose this game then surely it must be the end for Ian Westwood as captain. His poor use of his bowling resources seems to have reached a new low in this game. After McGain took four wickets I would have expected Imran to be on early and bowling a lot of overs. I certainly expected him to be used against the lower Essex order, rather than allowing them to pile up runs against the seamers.
Of course if it was a plumb wicket Westwood would have Imran bowling all day from one end- and giving away five or six an over. The man couldn't captain a rowing boat!
Hi Red Baron. I must admit I think, overall, Westwood is a pretty good captain but I can't fathom that Tahir business this morning.
I have checked - Tahir wasn't ill or injured.
On the subject of poor captaincy, I think the Bears made a serious error in not bowling Botha as much as they should have in the T20 tournament, particularly against Hampshire. I admit that was Troughton's call but a wrong one nonetheless in my humble opinion.
I reckon Botha is under-used as a bowler in all forms of cricket.
