Gardner and Horner

By Brian Halford on Jul 6, 10 02:16 PM

Warwickshire 18 for 0. (4 overs). Westwood 9, Maddy 8.

Maddy struck two boundaries from Best's opening over: a scintillating pull and a controlled edge.

Westwood has just square-driven Best for four.

Warwickshire's record opening stand against Yorkshire, before today, is 182 by Fred Gardner and Norman Horner at Bradford in 1953.

Brian - is it time we considered a taller opening pairing. While I congratulate Westy on raching 30 (and counting) today, he and Darren have a certain lack of height.

As well as a right-nand/left-hand combination testing a bowler's line, would a tall-bat/short-bat combination work?

KD Smith and Kallicharran, Westwood and Clarke........

Back to my knitting.....

Good afternoon Mrs Trellis. I understand Warwickshire have put 28 days in for Harry Pilling and Richard Williams.

Mrs Trellis said:

Ah yes - Pilling with Clive Lloyd was a splendid sight, Williams with Sarfraz compelling yet brief.

We could be on to something - Ambrose and Miller.......
