The Bears will have to dig deep

By Brian Halford on Jun 25, 10 05:26 PM

After these next two portions of formulaic, yawn-inducing nonsense at Edgbaston tonight and Trent Bridge on Sunday it will be back to proper cricket of course with a championship visit to Durham starting on Monday. And Warwickshire desperately need a lift in the championship to get away from the bottom two.

But they will have to achieve it with a seriously depleted side, most of all in the top order. While Chris Woakes will be away with England Lions, Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott will be with the England senior and Lions squads respectively while Varun Chopra will be out for six weeks with a fractured hand.

Chopra will have an operation on Monday. Will the Bears heroic fightback begin that day on a ground at which they have been heavily beaten on each of their previous two championship visits?

unlucky for chopra. Do u think johnson will play as a batsman? Could ord play? Or javid?

Hi Andy - yes, it is unlucky for Chopra just as he was showing a bit of form.
I think they will take Javed in the squad to Durham but not Johnson.
My guess: Westwood, Botha, Maddy, Troughton, Ambrose, Clarke, Carter, Barker, Miller, I.Tahir, Rankin.

I disagree Brian I think that side but Johnson for Barker, even though 3 recognised batsman in a side stuggling for runs should be interesting....

Hi Spencer - I think you've got a very valid point there. That team was what I think it might be, not what I think it should be!
