Giles, Welch, Brown and Forinton.
Warwickshire v Somerset at Edgbaston, 1999.
Warwickshire 356 for 7.
Match drawn.
In April 1999, Ashley Giles, Dougie Brown and Graeme Welch were part of the Warwickshire team which amassed a solid 356 for 7 against Somerset on the opening day of a championship match. After Mark Wagh (44), David Hemp (47), Trevor Penney (73) and Keith Piper (66) lifted the Bears to 242 for five, the middle and lower order contributed further useful runs. Brown (55) and Welch (23) added an unbroken 53 before the close after Giles had scored a fluent and attractive single.
With rain forecast, Warwickshire had been granted permission by the ECB to roll the Brumbrella out over the ground as long as the umpires and captains agreed. Somerset skipper Jamie Cox, on the advice of his coach Dermot Reeve, said no because they thought it would make the pitch sweat.
Rain completely washed out the second, third and fourth days. On the second, Howard Forinton scored his first goal for Birmingham City in a 1-0 home win over Queens Park Rangers which ensured Blues a place in the play-offs.

Howard Forington had the misfortune to be subbed for a sun on his debut all in 5 minutes!! Birmingham were 0 0 I think Versus West Brom (someone please correct if I am wrong) and through on an extra striker they scored to make it 1-0. the oppo went up the other end where Trevor Francis promptly substituted forington for Gary Abblet to defend the corner!!
I remeber his goal though decent header halfway through the second half. Lst seen playing possibly for banbury I believe

Spot on with Forinton's debut, Spencer. Michael Johnson scored a penultimate-gasp goal against WBA before Blues survived the last-gasp corner.
March 28, 1998, it was - I was at Sincil Bank, covering Lincoln City v Colchester United. It was the day that former Blues striker Dennis Bailey made his debut for the mighty Imps. Colchester won 1-0.
Dennis Bailey was one of the few footballers to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford for Queens Park Rangers. He also turned out for Stratford Town in the Midland Alliance.
A hat-trick at Old Trafford? Not bad. But small beer alongside his injury-time goal at Darlington which ultimately ensured Lincoln City a glorious (and I don't use that word lightly) promotion from League Two.
