An Edgbaston feast

By Brian Halford on Jun 9, 10 10:05 AM

When Warwickshire played Worcestershire at Edgbaston in the championship in August 1913 the opening day was lively.

At lunch Worcestershire were 200 for three with Fred Bowley 136 not out. Then in the first hour after lunch the visitors lost their remaining seven wickets, including that of Bowley for 177, sixth out with the score on 256, to be all out for 266.

In reply, Warwickshire declined to 133 for seven before Frank Foster and Percy Jeeves counter-attacked to lift the score to 219 for nine by the close.

485 for 19 in the day. Now that's entertainment.
