To savour...

By Brian Halford on May 29, 10 11:53 AM

Here are, according, to the ECB: "Twenty things to look out for during this year's Friends Provident T20."

I pass the list on so that you can print it out and tick the experiences off, one by one, as you enjoy them. Personally, I look forward with particularly great excitement to numbers 4, 8, 11 and 18.

1. The players: Many of the very best players in the world will be on display including members of England's victorious ICC World Twenty20 squad and some of the highest profile stars in world cricket.
2. The trophy: 151 games will determine which side goes home with the beautiful contemporary silver and gold trophy, specially designed to reflect the fast moving pace of Twenty20 cricket.
3. The Friends Provident mascot challenge: It starts earlier this year with county mascots doing time trials during the group stages. The time determines your mascot's start position on Friends Provident t20 Finals Day.
4. The music: As well as the official theme tune there will be music pumping out around the ground for every occasion.
5. The dancers: Slick routines to watch before and during games.
6. Fantastic ticket offers: Visit www.ecb.co.uk/tickets for information on ticket offers near you.
7. Face masks: Print out a fun face mask from www.ecb.co.uk/friendsprovident t20 and show your support.
8. Mango moments: Video clips of the most flamboyant moments at Friends Provident t20 televised matches with the chance to vote for your favourite Mango Moment each week www.mangomoments.co.uk
9. Text a message of support to your team: Messages will appear on the big screen throughout the games.
10. Rubicon Target: Rubicon will donate an incredible £20,000 to The British Asian Trust every time a batsman hits their target.
11. Crowd karaoke: Sing along to the classics when the lyrics appear on the big screen.
12. Crowd giveaways: Look out for the free flags, clappits, temporary tattoos, face paintings and four and six cards.
13. Double headers with the England women: Come down and cheer on the England women as they take on New Zealand during June and July at Chelmsford, Hove and The Rose Bowl.
14. Remember your day: Look out for the photo booth and get your photo taken for free by a professional photographer.
15. Hot Seat competition: Win fantastic prizes throughout the summer.
16. Autograph sessions: Get your favourite player's signature this summer.
17. Theme days: Beach parties, 70s nights, Family Fun Days, fairground rides and kids coaching sessions are just some of the things to look out for.
18. The dugouts: Brand new dugouts- there's nowhere to hide for the teams as they sit pitch side.
19. Local derbies: A brand new format sees teams divided into two groups, North and South so watch out for those classic grudge matches.
20. Friends Provident t20 Finals Day: This year's will be one to remember at The Rose Bowl, Hampshire on 14 August when it returns to the ground for the second time. Get your tickets now for what promises to be a superb day out.

According to an article in this month's Wisden Cricketer there was a training day at Lords a couple of weeks ago for all 18 county 'disc jockeys' for ''a briefing session on how best to entertain the crowds at this year's rebranded Friends Provident t20''

You couldn't make it up could you ?

Now I have to admit to actually enjoying the T20 form of cricket. Fast moving, good fun and as it’s progressed the more skilful players have found a way of being the most successful. But is it really necessary to surround it with a never ending list of “experiences” most of them invented by the money men who would sell their granny’s for a quick buck. A little bit of music and carnival fine, I can tolerate, even enjoy that, but karaoke, Mango Moment, Hot Seat competition, anyone comes near me with a microphone and they’ll get it stuck where the sun don’t shine!
And another thing….
Is it really appropriate to relegate the women’s international matches to point number 13 on this stupid list? Behind the dancers, face painters, karaoke and what have you.
Will the ECB ever understand the meaning of respect and dignity?

Walmley - No you couldn't. If you did you'd be laughed at for being ridiculous.
Bozza - Respect and dignity? No, they prefer the Allen Stanford way.
