The A to B of injuries

By Brian Halford on May 29, 10 07:25 PM

A damp and fragmented day at Edgbaston today did at least bring the A to B of injuries.

A - Astonishingly unlucky. Just before rain closed in for the final time, Darren Maddy was forced to limp off halfway through bowling an over after tweaking a hamstring. After the 14 months Darren has had he is entitled to expect no more injuries in this life.
Early indications are that it's not too bad. Let's hope so, for his sake and also Warwickshire's with the T20 starting on Thursday.

B - Bonkers. It's not uncommon in football to see a player leave the field with blood streaming from a head wound after an aerial duel but I never thought I'd see it in cricket. As if pre-play footy warm-ups have not generated enough injuries for cricketers down the years as players have pulled, strained or twisted their way into the treatment room, today Durham fast-bowlers Callum Thorp and Liam Plunkett challenged for a high ball and the former ended up with a cut bonce. Thorp had already been stipulated 12th man but if Plunkett had come off worse and the Bears had won the toss and batted, Durham would have given the hallowed history of bonkers, unnecessary, self-inflicted injury blows a whole new dimension.

Actually, while we are about it...
C - Carter. Neil has had an injection in his troublesome hip and will see a specialist on Wednesday about whether he can play in the T20 the following day. It's touch and go.

Don't think I have a D to Z.
