Roger Twose and Dalian Atkinson
Warwickshire v Durham at Edgbaston, 1992.
Durham 136 and 238 for 4
Warwickshire 316 for 4 declared
On Durham's inaugural championship visit to Edgbaston a virtuoso display of fast bowling by Allan Donald was not rewarded with victory, due mainly to rain.
On the first morning, Donald removed openers Larkins and Glendenen for ducks and went on to take seven for 37 with the only sustained resistance coming from Botham with 44. Small and Munton shared the other three wickets. Donald, Small and Munton - has Warwickshire ever had a better trinity of seamers?
Every batsman then contributed as Moles (51), Twose (65), Lloyd (60), Ostler (45) Reeve (44no) and Penney (37no) lifted the Bears ahead on a rain-affected second day but the time lost to rain helped Durham secure a draw thanks largely to Larkins (77) and Bainbridge (71) and despite ten overs of astute twirl from NMK Smith.
Five days later, Aston Villa embarked on their season with a 1-1 draw at Ipswich, their goal coming from Dalian Atkinson. They then also drew their next two games, at home to Leeds and Southampton 1-1, each time their goal coming from Dalian Atkinson.

It was really a quartet, not a trinity. We also had Dermot Reeve, whose slower ball seemed almost to stop! What about 1914 for comparison - Foster, Field, Jeeves and the emerging Howell? CFheers, Bob
I reckon Foster, Field, Jeeves and Howell would shade it, Bob.
From what I've read about Jeeves, you know, he puts me very much in mind of Chris Woakes.
Fine all-rounder, nice fella; huge prospects but well-grounded.
100 years separate them, of course. In 2016, Woakes will be in his prime and hopefully a Test regular. In 1916, Jeeves, in his prime, was killed at High Wood. So sad.
Hope you're right about Chris Woakes, Brian He's certainly started out as quickly as Jeeves did, and in a sense he's already ahead having scored 2 centuries. I agree the Jeeves story is really sad. He was on the brink of great things - Foster, who was also lost to us, had already achieved a great deal. Cheers, Bob
