Lancashire choose to bat

By Brian Halford on May 17, 10 10:52 AM

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Lancashire have won the toss and will bat on a slightly cloudly morning.

Warwickshire are without Woakes who will play for England Lions this week. Miller comes in.

Bears: Westwood, Maddy, Bell, Trott, Troughton, Ambrose, Clarke, Carter, I.Tahir, Miller, Rankin.

Lancashire will begin the game without Anderson but he is expected to join the match on Wednesday on his return, ash cloud permitting, from the Caribbean.

Good morning Brian.

How can Anderson join the match half way through?

Hi John - an agreement exists between England and the counties by which one player can replace another during a championship match as long as both are specified pre-match, in this case Jimmy Anderson and Luke Procter.
It's a strange rule, arguably bizarre that a team can change halfway through a match, but it does at least allow top players to represent their counties that little bit more.

Thanks Brian, I wasn't aware of this rule. Is that why Lancs batted first to give Anderson more bowling time or is that too cynical?

Not cynical at all John - spot on. It would have been a very good toss for Warwickshire to win.

Keep up to date
