Boil

By Brian Halford on May 31, 10 05:29 PM

Close: Warwickshire 229 for 4 (72 overs). Westwood 86, Johnson 20.

Still heaps of work to do but a terrific effort from Westwood, Clarke and Johnson.

Meanwhile, during the last session, Johnson played a ball from Borthwick right out of the middle of the bat all along the ground out to cover. Some buffoon in the close field cried "Catch it".

Every time a cry of "catch it" goes up from a fielder when there is palpably no chance of a catch, ten runs should be added to the score.

Of all the dangers and evils threatening the future of cricket in these turbulent times this is the biggest. It makes by blood boil.

Hi Brian, very good effort from Westwood. Shown lots of character. Out of the top order hes probably been our best batsman this season, with the notable exception of Trott of course. Good to see Ricki get some runs too - hope he can kick on from there.

Also pleased that Richard Johnson stuck it out, especially as it was primarily against a double spin attack, something which I dont think is his prefered type of bowling. Hes a good lad I really hope he does well. I saw him score a good 100 for the seconds at Kidderminster this season.

And fielders shouting

C'mon boys, five and six tonight boys...

Hi Paul - yes, strong work from the captain, real leading from the front. Also a very important effort from Johnson last night, impressive on his debut. If he had got out early it could have led to another clatter.

Yes Mad, it might clamp down on this wave of verbal drivel if fielders knew one more cry of "Good areas" could cost them the five runs that loses them the game.
They should try it out in T20. I might suggest it to the ECB. I am sure they will waste no time hiring a consultancy firm for £100,000,000,000,000,552 per hour to evaluate whether it would be a good idea.
