Regarding your earlier comment about the toss ... I played cricket in Hammerwich, nr Lichfield, yesterday.
The opposition won the toss, but unbelievably invited us to bat.
Sure enough, three hours of standing or running about in the baking heat took its toll on them and we won quite comfortably.
Still can't understand the decision to put us in though. It might be one of those never-to-be-repeated errors.
Who'd be a skipper? Remember Southport and Dennis Amiss (I seem to be on his case today) declaring after Warwickshire piled up 500+ on the first day. The Bears lost by ten wickets.
