27 pigeons

By Brian Halford on May 7, 10 06:34 PM

Ah well, all done and dusted, the St Lawrence Ground is virtually deserted now, except for 27 pigeons on the field and three of us tapping away up here in the press-box. The travelling Bears supporters have made the short walk to the 'Bat and Ball' and are, I would imagine, on their fourth celebratory pint already. What a match. What a final session.

Great stuff from the Bears. Imran Tahir did exactly what he was hired to do, Darren Maddy struck two huge blows just when it seemed Kent were taking command, Ian Westwood had the nous to bring Maddy on at that point, Rikki Clarke added another wicket to his six in the first innings (without which Warwickshire could never have won this match) and Chris Woakes and Naqaash Tahir took fine, calm catches at a time of great pressure.

But the most memorable images of a spectacular afternoon? Those that arrived right at the start and the end of Kent's innings as Woakes dismissed Joe Denly and Makhaya Ntini in the classic style - middle stump flying from the ground.

Fantastic stuff, though a bit of a handful to write up (spare a thought for the scribes will you chaps?!!). I need an 'oliday.

Fortunately I've got one. Will report in again on Monday week. Cheers to all for now.
