Woakes's take on it

By Brian Halford on Apr 28, 10 08:10 PM

"I was pleased with the way I played and to get the team out of trouble as well was even more satisfying. I played pretty well and it was nice to get some time in the middle and bat properly. You don't get many chances to do that going in down the order so I really enjoyed it.

"When I went in we were in a bit of trouble and it was good to just get in with Amby and try and get a partnership together. It wasn't a matter of trying to get so many runs at that stage but just batting a bit of time and getting ourselves in and hopefully building a partnership. That's all we were thinking about at the time and then as you score more runs it gets a bit easier.

"It was nice to build partnerships with Carts and Immy and at the end with Immy it ended up being a bit of fun and we swayed the game back in our favour a bit. We had Hampshire where we wanted them at that stage. They went away from their plan a bit and we capitalised.

"But we realise we haven't killed the games off in the first two matches. We had opportunities to win and let them go by. We have talked about that. It's about being ruthless and taking those windows of opportunity which we need to take with both hands and really nail and we are hoping to do that in the morning."
