Not quite sure why Warwickshire are playing Kerrigan in such cavalier fashion. Bell in the first innings, Troughton and now Clarke in the second have perished recklessly to him. Clarke tried to launch the young spinner straight and was stumped for seven. Two balls later Ambrose went back to one that scuttled through, fell lbw for a duck and Kerrigan had a double-wicket maiden.

Westwood, the first Warwickshire batsman to reach 50 in the match (Lancashire have scored five half-centuries), deserves better support than he has had.

Looking on the bright side, Lancashire were 113 for 6 yesterday and reached 319.
