Troughton retired hurt on 44, after a partnership of 104 in 26 overs with Bell, due to a migraine. Clarke cover-drive Anderson gloriously for four from this third ball faced.
Then came a huge blow for the Bears and an illustrious first championship wicket for Kerrigan. Bell, on 47, offered a premeditated sweep at the spinner and bat-padded to Chilton at short leg.
