Memorable Championship Matches: No 43.
Warwickshire v Yorkshire at Edgbaston, 1900.
Warwickshire 84 and 43 for 7.
Yorkshire 158 for 2 declared.
Match drawn.
The first two days were completely washed out by torrential mid-August rain but even then Yorkshire almost forced a remarkable win in the single day available.
Wilfred Rhodes (6 for 47) and Schofield Haigh (4 for 22) skittled the Bears for 84 as only John Devey, who had collected an FA Cup winner's medal with Aston Villa earlier in the year, offered much resistance with 36.
The ever-flamboyant David Denton then thrashed 85 as Yorkshire galloped to 158 for 2 in 100 minutes before declaring. Rhodes and Haigh were immediately back among Warwickshire's batsmen and the Bears collapsed from 21 for one to 43 for 7 with captain Herbert Bainbridge hanging on grimly at the end with five not out.
