Book early!
While in Southend yesterday I took the liberty of inquiring about possible accommodation there for when Warwickshire play Essex in August.
To the question: "Can you think of a nice, cheapish hotel in Southend?" the replies were:
"No mate." (Man collecting for 'End Polio Now')
"Hmm. Oooh. No, can't think of one dear." (Woman in pizza shop)
"There are no nice hotels in Southend or the surrounding area." (Local reporter)
And these were residents of that fine town!

I have found somewhere to stay in Southend although I can't vouch for what it's like. Will be in Oxford when the Bears are playing their traditional pre-season friendly there and hope to look in on at least one of the days. If you're going to be there I can give you details then and if not I can text them to you.

According to last night's forecast, sleet is forecast for Tuesday, in which case the Parks, so gorgeous on a nice day, will be distinctly missable!
