Following an ECB Board meeting, the following points system and rule changes have been approved for the County Championship effective from 2010.

Teams will receive 16 points for a win and three for a draw (changed from 14 for a win and four for a draw in recent years).

Bonus points remain unchanged (a maximum of five batting points and three bowling points available during each side's first innings) but the threshold for achieving them has reduced to 110 overs (from 120 overs).

The use of the heavy roller will be banned after the start of the match.
