A small quantity of gunpowder

Lord's cricket ground moved to its present location in 1814 after Parliament had agreed to put the Regent's Canal right through the middle of the previous ground. Four days before the new venue was due to open, the press reported that: "a shocking incident occurred at New Lord's Cricket-ground public-house, Marylebone Fields. The landlady of the house had occasion to use a small quantity of gunpowder and, whilst in the act of taking the same from a paper, containing a pound weight, a spark from the fire caught it and it went off with a great explosion. The landlady, her sister and four little girls were seriously burnt. The two former are in a dangerous way."

Despite this unfortunate incident, MCC went ahead with the inaugural match on the new site later that week and beat Hertfordshire by an innings and 27 runs.

Meanwhile, 195 years later, last week I visited Slimbridge wildfowl reserve in Gloucestershire (always a joy) but the day ended in disappointment when I returned home to find the fridge-magnet I had purchased there possessed no magnet.
Next day I visited Tropical Birdland in Leicestershire (again most enjoyable - especially the "chameleon birds" for which I hunted for a good few minutes before twigging). Never one to deny myself a thrill, again I purchased a fridge-magnet but this item lasted only a few days before disintegrating, despite nothing more demanding having been asked of it than to adhere, in traditional fashion, to the fridge.

It makes my blood boil. Is there no bird-related organisation in this country that can vend satisfactory fridge-magnets?
