Seagull cull
CLOSE: Warwickshire 302 for 5 (107 overs). Troughton 28, Ambrose 40.
Warwickshire's best championship day's cricket of the season. A fine effort by all involved.

Brian, you missed the highlight of the day. During the morning session a seagull attempted to land on the pavilion roof, but skidded off and topppled into the midst of the members sitting below.
From my vantage point at the sea end of the ground I watched as members in each row stood up in turn as the unfortunate seagull made its way to the front of the stand before hopping up on to the boundary fence and flying off.
Evenin' Sorrento. Please have little sympathy for said bird. I'm sure it picked itself up, dusted itself down and vowed to venge itself on visitors to the town by making even more noise even earlier and dropping even larger missiles more often.
By the way, when Sussex's chief exec (seems like a very decent chap) came to the press box to explain the ground plans yesterday I asked him if a seagull cull was planned. Tricky, he said, because apparently they are protected. Can you believe that? Evil vermin PROTECTED!
He also advised me, if I come again, to bring a hawk because they frighten seagulls away. The logistics of doing that, however, appear at first thought a bit tricky.
