Durham to bat

By Brian Halford on Jun 16, 09 10:38 AM

Good morning ladies and gentlemen.

While so much attention centres on the Twenty20 World Cup, here at Edgbaston begins what looks a cracking four-day game. Warwickshire, maximum batting points every time so far this season, against Durham, bang in form and, led by Onions and Harmison, on fire with the ball.

That confrontation comes later though. Durham have won the toss and will bat.

Rankin is back for Warwickshire after T20 duty with Ireland.

Warwickshire team: Westwood, Frost, Trott, Bell, Troughton, Ambrose, Botha, Carter, Patel, Woakes, Rankin.

No preview in Post today or did I miss it ?

World 20 20 competition appears to have gone very well.

Any news on Durham team ?

Hi Beatie. No, you didn't miss anything.

Durham bring in Breese for Clayton so are playing two spinners. Safe to say the Bears have not asked Rouse to prepare a wicket to encourage the pacemen!

Honestly, Brian, I don't think they've asked for a pitch to encourage pace in the last 4 years. A Durham match is possibly not the time to suggest it, but it would be nice if they put a little bit of faith in their batsmen.

Aye. And they do need to win a game or two at some point.
Perhaps Patel and Botha are poised to do the honours here, although losing the toss was a bit of a blow.
