Trott and Patel shine
Close: Warwickshire 422 for 8 (107 overs). Trott 140, Patel 89.
These two have so far added 181, a new ninth-wicket partnership for Warwickshire against all-comers, beating the 154 by George Stephens and Alf Croom against Derbyshire at Edgbaston in 1925.
Very fine batting. Trott was implacable from the moment he went in while Patel issued an immediate statement of intent with two sixes off Rashid and went on to give the tiny, wind-chilled crowd plenty to warm their hands as he struck 11 fours and two sixes from 104 balls. He will sup his Horlicks tonight with a new career-best already banked and just 11 runs away from a maiden ton.
Still a bit of work to do for the Bears to get safe, mind. Another 29 needed to avoid the follow-on.

Patel's highest first class score in the world ever ever. Nice time for him to set some personal bests... Hope they can pick up where they left of.
That's how many records this game? Surely Warwickshire need to put some trust in their upper order and prepare some more lively wickets. I'd always prefer to watch good bowling than good batting, whatever the format.
I didn't realise Patel could even hold a bat properly. Secret weapon for the T20?
When IJL Trott drops anchor, you'd have more joy trying to raise Atlantis.
