The setting sun

By Brian Halford on May 29, 09 08:26 PM

Warwickshire won by seven wickets with ten balls to spare and are up and running in the group after a highly impressive all-round performance.

Troughton and Trott added 97 - a Warwickshire T20 record - in 12.3 overs - in front of a crowd of just under 10,000.

Troughton's scores in limited-overs cricket this season: 53, 62, 3, 77, 13, 67, 53, 50 and 58. Throw in 77 and 223 in the championship and he's not having too shabby a time of it. He is hitting the ball incredibly sweetly this season and Vanburn Holder can testify to that after tonight after a withering straight drive from Troughton blasted two stumps at the non-striker's end out of the ground as Vanburn desperately sought cover from two flying timbers and a fizzing red orb.

Trott, meanwhile, has rarely batted better than he did at Taunton on Wednesday and at Edgbaston tonight.

It was a happy, noisy, good-humoured crowd. And as the sun shone down on a lovely evening, sitting here at the City End, I got to thinking about that dear old Pavilion at t'other end. Of course it's outdated and needs to be brought into the 21st century but it's still a little sad to think that famous old view will soon disappear forever.

Very solid performance tonight, I bow to your better judgement, Brian, that's obviously why you're the professional.
Barker really does look to have great promise, let's just hope he's allowed to develop without too much pressure.
Have been impressed by Trotty's performances so far in the 2020, right mix of early aggression and after the power play solid support to Jim, who at the moment is batting out of his skin.
Great fun!!

Always thought the pavilion looks a bit ugly and scruffy, even more so given it's now surrounded by scaffolding for the television cameras. Thing is, I suppose you can get a bit attached to ugly and scruffy can't you!
