The ball bounced out

By Brian Halford on May 6, 09 12:05 PM

Yorkshire 64 for 0 (16 overs). Rudolph 42, Sayers 21.

Carter has come on and bowled well. Rudolph, on 25, edged a drive and Bell got both hands to a very tough chance at third slip far to his left but the ball bounced out as his elbows hit the ground.

Few batsmen punish a short ball as murderously as Rudolph. He has just cut and pulled four short balls to the fence off Rankin who has changed ends and found the City End rather unforgiving.

I don't wish to be a harbinger of doom but Yorkshire's first-wicket record against Warwickshire is 309 by Holmes and Sutcliffe at Edgbaston in 1931.
