Sickener for Darren Maddy

By Brian Halford on May 1, 09 02:58 PM

At ten o'clock this morning, Darren Maddy, participating in a gentle warm-up exercise at Edgbaston, with nobody else near him, felt an ominous 'pop' at the back of his knee.

The injury, sustained in the most innocuous fashion (a la Mark Wagh, when he was ruled out for a whole season, a few years ago) has been scanned this afternoon but it is almost certainly cruciate ligament damage which would rule him out for most, if not all of, the season.

A real sickener for Darren. Such bad luck.

And some hard luck too for Andy Miller who put in an impressive debut against Hampshire last week but finished the game sore and has torn a side muscle quite badly. He will be out for six weeks.

Lady Luck ain't the Bears' biggest supporter just now.

The wheel is looking considerably wonky so very early in the season...i'll get ready at the bottom of the road to catch it.

I feel very sorry for Darren. He hasn't got that many seasons left has he so to lose one must be very depressing.

It's pretty much the worst case scenario. Darren has snapped his anterior cruciate ligament. An operation and almost certainly out for the season.
Rarely do I have much sympathy for professional sportsmen but blows like this must be so hard to take.
Turn up for practice in the morning with all season to look forward. Go to bed at night with it all snatched away.
All the best Darren. Get back as soon as poss.
