And there it is...

By Brian Halford on Apr 23, 09 06:05 PM

Close: Warwickshire 224 for 4 (66 overs). Troughton 100, Ambrose 47.

Troughton reached his century in the final over of the day from 172 balls with 12 fours.

Partnership so far, an excellent 124.

And the lift shaft is now devoid of water. Congratulations to all involved.

Pains me to say it, cos I don't like the man, but I think our team could do with a character like Corky, with his up and at 'em attitude. Thought we let things drift a bit this morning, donating runs to Pothas and not really getting at the tailenders. We seem to create opportunities and are then too cautious and timid to take full advantage. Tremlett was crying out for a yorker and Tomlinson for a bouncer but it took a long time to happen.
Still, I thought the bowling was encouraging and Jim's ton was sublime, even, or particularly, the last few runs when Hants put good pressure on him (thought the leg slip "chance" was off his leg myself).
I saw that wagtail, lazy thing just sat in the grass as far as I could see, give me a seagull anyday, full of action they are!

Well battled boys ! Thank god the leg slip well place by Pothas is worse than catching than Dillip Doshi.

Cork was in great heart all day. Very entertaining as he left the field saying he doesn't deserve the stick he gets all day from the City End. The boo boys can't beat him.Legend!

They're full of something...as Darren Maddy found out one day while conducting a post-play press conference one sunny evening at Hove...

You were spot on Troughton Brian. Didn't he play well! Cork was full of beans, however I think he was out of order when he started mimicking Warwickshire fans. That sort of behaviour could incite the crowd. Yes one could say its all in good fun but I think some people wouldn't see it that way

I think Darren must have just come across one being a little bit mischievous Brian. Ahh ..., don't you think they're sweet really.

Rikki is a player who seems to divide opinion.
For what it's worth my thoughts -
Thought his first couple of spells on day 1 were poor, one good ball followed by two 'orrible ones, think his figures were 0-41 off 5 at that stage.
Subsequently I thought he bowled well, he has a good short ball, evidenced by bouncing out his two wickets, and can generate a bit of pace. His later spells were 2-22 off 7, so pretty good statistically.
He needs to be encouraged to "go for it" not ridiculed if he gets it wrong. Potentionally he's someone who can "make it happen" for us, someone with a bit of grit.
I've noticed that about 2 or 3 players this year - bit of grit - promising!
