Doshi thwarts Miller

By Brian Halford on Mar 19, 09 11:09 PM

Chairman of selectors Geoff Miller on England's current situation:

"We are not completely desperate because we know we have players who can turn it around."

Love the use of the word 'completely'!

Perhaps Miller still bears the scars of his agonising failure to bowl Derbyshire to championship victory on the final day against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 1980. Chasing 278, the Bears were sent into a downward spiral by the spin of Miller and Kim Barnett. In the final over Miller dismissed David Hopkins and Gladstone Small with the fourth and fifth balls. Dilip Doshi strode in and survived the hat-trick ball to secure a draw.

Warwickshire 159 for 9.

Steve Rouse 23 not out.

whats your view on them whingeing about counties signing Aussies, Brian? I think its a bit pathetic.

Yes, I agree, Kim. Sounds like a classic case of getting an excuse in early.
A chap who I respect very highly was suggesting to me today that with such a plethora of coaches and advisors around the players these days comes a dangerous excuse culture. There's always something/somebody else to blame.
Why not just make England the best they can possibly be - which is much much better than they have been of late - and not fret about the opposition?

Keep up to date
