Waxwings and sheep

By Brian Halford on Feb 23, 09 03:56 PM

The good news:

"Thousands of waxwings have poured across the North Sea over the past week to feast on the red berries of rowan and whitebeam trees and hawthorn, guelder rose, dog rose, cotoneaster and firethorn bushes.

These beautiful birds are heading for retail parks and town centres where such trees and shrubs have been planted extensively to brighten up shopping complexes. Most excitingly, two have been spotted in Warwick."

The bad news:

"The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today announced that Giles Clarke has successfully been re-elected as Chairman of the ECB following the completion of the election process conducted by Electoral Reform Services.

The 41 members of the ECB, which comprises the 18 First Class Counties, 21 County Boards, the MCC and the Minor Counties Cricket Association (MCCA), returned Clarke as Chairman for a second term until March 31, 2011.

Giles Clarke was put forward to the full membership of the ECB following the withdrawal of Lord Marland of Odstock from the nomination process. At the time of withdrawal, 16 votes had been cast from the 18 First Class Counties and MCC and Clarke was ahead 14-2."

Personally, I'd rather have a waxwing in charge.

Hi Jane, yes a waxwing is everything that is lovely in a bird. Everything that is 'orrible in a bird is, of course, a seagull.
