Toothpaste, Arnold Ridley, Bears in South Africa.

By Brian Halford on Feb 17, 09 04:44 PM

Toothpaste manufacturers are having a laugh aren't they? Funny how every time you squeeze a toothpaste tube it emits far more than you actually need. So the tube empties quicker and you have to return to the toothpaste shop sooner. It's one of the most cynical conspiracies of this deeply cynical age.

That image of Arnold Ridley on the Dad's Army credits, ambling along, rifle in hand, with a big, kind grin on the face, is so poignant when you consider that he not only fought and was wounded on the Somme in the First World War but was also evacuated from Dunkirk in the Second. A remarkable man.

During their stay in South Africa next month, Warwickshire will play two three-day games, two 50-over contests and two Twenty20s. The opposition will comprise amateurs from the Free State Cricket Union, a feeder team for the franchises. The Bears may also face Griqualand West in a day-nighter.

It's the same with tomato sauce bottles.

I use the pump action toothpaste dispensers these days. I find you can use less paste and you feel like Rambo too.

The secret is to squeeze all the toothpaste out of the full tube into a bowl at the very start. Then you can scoop up the exact amount required every time you brush your teeth.
