The greatest Wasp of all

By Brian Halford on Feb 25, 09 02:45 PM

Alloa Athletic's glorious 1922 Scottish Division Two championship triumph was fuelled by 49 goals from the great "Wee" Willie Crilley.

Just imagine what that mighty Wasps legend - hard as nails, quick as lightning, strong as an ox, would be worth in the crazy transfer market of today?

Regarding the transfer market any update on potential overseas's signings ?

Not nearly as much as Ayr United's Peter Price who bagged 45 goals in 1955/6 to secure the clubs place back in the First Division and then bagged 55 goals in 1958/9 to secure the Second Division title. Price 1, Crilley 0.

Morning, Beatie80. At last night's AGM (the usual virile and entertaining affair) Ashley Giles confirmed that there was no movement on the overseas player front.
I wonder if, in the absence of success in the pursuit of a fast bowler, they might try to rustle up an overseas spinner if Ian Salisbury retires from playing to go and coach at Surrey.

I'm afriad to say he'd get 49 goals in one match against Racing Club Warwick

Neither Willie Crilley nor Peter Price were fit to lace the boots of Rab Wells whose 54 goals for Cowdenbeath in the 1938/39 season were all magnificent.
