Eric, Hattie and Deryck

By Brian Halford on Feb 20, 09 09:28 AM

Shame that, if Warwickshire blow hot in the Twenty20 next season and win their group to earn a home quarter-final, the match almost certainly won't take place at Edgbaston (see today's Birmingham Mail).

Since the Gillette/Nat West/C&G Cup/Trophy ceased to be a proper knock-out competition, big, all-or-nothing one-day games in county cricket have almost ceased to exist already. At Edgbaston as much as everywhere else so it's unfortunate that the possibility of another has virtually disappeared.

Bears fans are constantly reminded what a thrill, honour and privilege it is for them to have a Test match stadium as their home ground. But there are prices to pay. Like the prospect of watching a 'home' T20 quarter-final at New Road.

And a fixture-list which is about as balanced as a see-saw with a tea-leaf at one end of it and Eric Sykes, Hattie Jacques and Deryck Guyler sitting at the other.
