Rankin and Woakes are keeping the pressure on Essex as the day brightens. Still cloudy but much less oppressive.

Even in a morning session truncated to 15 overs, by the way, Trott was given his obligatory pre-lunch over. That seems to be cemented in the Bears' bowling-first policy. I still haven't quite grasped the logic behind it.
