It's all John Holder's fault
This rain - it's all John Holder's fault. The very first time he umpired a first-class match at Edgbaston - Warwickshire v Oxford University in 1983 - the contest was ruined by rain. It's him, I tell you. it's him.
By the way, can anyone, without recourse to documentary aids such as Wisden or Cricket Archive or The History of Cornish River-widening Songs, reveal which two Bears players recorded their maiden centuries in that match?
And for full points, and a big hairy hand, name the other umpire - a former Lincoln City goalkeeper!

Being quite expert on Lincoln City, Id say Arther Jepson.
Spot on Kim. By the way, I have a problem this morning. In previous postings on this blog and articles in the Mail, I think I have used every description I can think of for my contempt for the contempt with which championship-watchers are treated by umpires and cricketers. I've got nowhere else to go!
