Warwickshire 476 for 9 declared. Rankin 7 not out.
Trott is left on 999 runs for the season after departing for 181, top-edging a sweep to slip. In 447 minutes, he faced 363 balls, 18 of which were propelled with enough velocity to reach the rope which the groundstaff have placed around the field to represent the boundary of the playing area.
Boyd Rankin lodged his highest score for Warwickshire - indeed his highest in first-class cricket.
Now can the Bears strike a blow or three before the light closes in?
Warwickshire 456 for 8 (140 overs). Trott 167, Rankin 1.
Woakes has edged a drive to point to supply Doshi with his first wicket in his 40th over. Woakes and Trott added 103 in 25 overs. Woakes struck a polished 45 from 75 balls.
Derbyshire will bat under scoreboard pressure but the match is approaching its halfway point so the Bears could do with as much time as possible tonight to get at their opponents' batting order.
Warwickshire 421 for 7 (132 overs). Trott 151, Woakes 29.
Maximum batting points were assured with nine balls to spare. Trott's bat continues to appear about a mile wide while Woakes has batted like a player destined for six or seven in the order. He has swung Doshi miles over mid-wicket for six - a great pick-up.
These two have so far added 71 and Derbyshire will have to bat under pressure.
Allan Jones umpired in one one-day international, England v India at Old Trafford in 1996.
NMK Smith made 11 that day.
Warwickshire 354 for 7 (116 overs). Trott 116, Woakes 1.
Salisbury essays a leg-side swat and top-edges Clare to the keeper to conclude a seventh-wicket partnership of 110 in 26 overs. Lovely knock from Salisbury which at last injected some impetus into this match. It is the 25th time he has passed 50 in championship cricket, not bad at all for a chap whose main forte is bowling.
Trott's 14th first-class century shows no sign of ending. Woakes has got off the mark with a debonair single.
The Bears' patient approach is being vindicated and will be fully so if they have Derbyshire 112 for 8 (Woakes 4-23, Martin 2-19, Salisbury 2-6) by the close tonight.
Warwickshire 314 for 6 (106 overs). Trott 97, Salisbury 44.
Salisbury had some sturdy porridge for lunch by the look of it as he has just struck Doshi for 6,4,4 from successive balls to take the total to 300.
Trott moved to 97 with a glorious straight driven four and is within reach of a ton of monumental patience.
As I type, Salisbury lifts Doshi for another straight six.
Lunch: Warwickshire 285 for 6 (102 overs). Trott 90, Salisbury 24.
Trott's anchor remains firmly entrenched. Salsibury, as he often has this season, has offered valuable support.
The gradual nature of scoring is illustrated by Langeveldt and Dohsi having delivered 50 overs between them for fewer than 100 runs.
Warwickshire 267 for 6 (98 overs). Trott 85, Salisbury 17.
Sorry about the belated update, ladies and gentlemen, but my computer crashed.
Ambrose perished for five to a good catch at mid-wicket. Botha fell lbw to a fine Langeveldt inswinger - the all-rounder's second duck of the season against his old county.
Trott ploughs implacably on though, 85 from 220 balls so far.
Warwickshire 232 for 4 (85 overs). Trott 72, Ambrose 0.
Derbyshire break through as Langeveldt delivers a fine inswinger to which Troughton does not get far enough forward and falls lbw for 35 from 117 balls with four fours. Troughton and Trott added 94 in 38 overs.
Mobile phones, radios, children and magazines can all be a dangerous distraction to a driver but I have to say my stickiest moments have come from bananas.
Warwickshire 223 for 3 (81 overs). Trott 68, Troughton 30.
Trott and Troughton have resumed in similar watchful style to yesterday, in identical conditions to yesterday, with the same crowd, saws sounding in the back ground, under a thick canopy of grey cloud.
This is today isn't it? Not yesterday again.
Derbyshire have just taken the new ball.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. It is cloudy again and humid but quite bright so it is difficult to see how play cannot start on time.
Although I'm sure if there is a way...
