Harry Bagshaw

By Brian Halford on Aug 24, 08 10:08 AM

Ah yes well very nice holiday that was in the gorgeous Peak District. Among the highlights - visiting the grave of former Derbyshire all-rounder and renowned umpire Harry Bagshaw.

Bagshaw, who took four for 16 as Warwickshire struggled to 118 all out from 64.4 overs in a rain-ruined draw with Derbyshire at Glossop in 1900, lies in the churchyard at Eyam. He was buried, just a few miles from his native village of Foolow, in his umpire's coat with a cricket ball in hand.

I sometimes wonder whether Mary properly appreciates how lucky she is to be taken to these places.

Seems the Bears were a smidgin below par at Cardiff last Friday...

Thats an understatement. They were horrible. They faired a bit better today at Harborne for MP benefit match. Some great fielding by MP and a good impression of our lovely Gladstone Small and Dermot Reeve.

Arthur Shrewsbury and Alfred Shaw are both buried in our churchyard - 22 yards apart.
