Exciting developments

There is a glimmer of hope. About 20 umps, ground staff, coaches and players are milling about the square and copious water has been removed from the ground.

Lunch will be taken at 1pm and the umpires will look again after that. A member of the Warwickshire XI, who shares his surname with one of north Lancashire's most illustrious manufacturers of fishing tackle, has just asserted that play might start around 3pm, unless there's another downpour, in which case it'll be off for the day.
