i would stick with maddy partly in view of the need to have some stability within the squad while the squad is in transition.
dermot reeve would struggle to engineer wins in games at the moment with the pitch and the current development of the squad.
i see parallels with andy lloyd's tenure as captain. rebuilding of the squad is a priority and nurturing the young players to give them a chance to succeed.
other candidates - trott, westwood - westy seems the more vocal of the two but not as secure in his place with still too few conversions of 30's into big scores.
Maddy would be a great first-lieutenant. I'd give captaincy to someone else next season. Maybe an overseas player cos we need a top-drawer one of those and they should be captaincy material. A short-term solution but nevessary i'm afraid. Westwood's not ready.
I would give Maddy another year unless we signed a high class overseas player who had proven experience like the South African at Durham (Blenkinstein).
You are only as good as your tools.
However Maddys needs a good Championship campaign
I still haven't forgiven Maddy's decision-making in the T20 QF against the Spitfires. When we needed the spin twins bowling in tandem, he brought Groenewald and Woakes into the attack to costly effect.
The perfect choice as next year's skipper is Ant Botha. Potentially a great leader of men.
