The mighty oak

Ian Salisbury is back in Warwickshire's squad for the game against Glamorgan starting tomorrow but whether he plays will depend upon whether he has any overnight twinges and also the state of the pitch.

Apologies, ladies and gentlemen, but I will be unable to blog the game tomorrow and Saturday due to another flare-up of my back problem. It really is getting tiresome now.

An oak tree, they say, grows for 300 years, rests for 300 years, then decays for 300 years. My backbone, it appears, made of less stern stuff, grew for 20 years, did a half-decent job for 10 years, then got straight into the decay.

I aim to drive down on Sunday morning to sample some cricket at the ground at which Warwickshire's team in the championship in 1982 included three Smiths - KD, PA and DM.

Good luck with that back.......

Why would an oak tree have to rest for 300 years? They never do anything.

You need a bit of TLC on that back. I hope it wasn't that spell of leg spin set it off again?

Thank you Campaigning, Warley, Ted and Jane. I feel the bowling might have triggered the trouble. On three occasions during my spell I had to twist very sharply to try to keep track of a ball which had been socked back over my head for a massive six.
I fear that it is, once and for all, the end of a not-very-illustrious playing career.

And Warwickshire never did get back to me after my trial in 1981...

Would it be mischievous to suggest that, once again, in Brian's absence, Warwickshire have prospered?

Perhaps Trevor Catt should be given the gig....
