Here's a bit of classic 'pot and kettle'. Just before the French open women's final yesterday the players were ambushed by a reporter for a few words. Both ladies offered, entirely understandably, seconds before the biggest match of their lives, a few forgettable cliches.

"Well," harrumphed Sue Barker, back in the studio, "I'm not sure how much we learned from that."

Spot on, Sue. But don't you do exactly that, to cringe-inducing effect, at Wimbledon every year?
