Gritty, battling cricket this morning as Derbyshire edge their way in front. Botha broke through when he delivered a straight ball which Stubbings went back to and missed, falling lbw for 19. Sadler, on 18, then played on to former Leicestershire colleague Maddy.

Rogers will be back to bat again. His helmet visor was crunched into his nose and his conk is cut but it's not serious.

Carter was hostile this morning. Personally, under thick cloud, I'd give Bell a bowl but the skipper is yet to explore that option.
