The optimist

By Brian Halford on May 25, 08 01:57 PM

Rain had been pounding down for hours and hours, it was grey and cold and 'orrible and there were, I think, only the groundstaff, players, officials and a handful of ultra-professional south Warwickshire and Ireland-based journalists present at Edgbaston apart from....an ice-cream man who prepared his van behind the City End and got his ducks in a row, ready to vend 99s, cider lollies, choc ices, cornettos, dromedary tubs and the like.

Meanwhile, the dreary, ceaseless rain, if anything, intensified. God bless optimism!

Sadly no such optimism from Brian when it comes to technology.
He's asked me to pass on apologies that he's unable to blog today due to a lack of internet access.
Either that or the seagulls have finally finished him off.
Says he'll be back in the saddle at Gloucester on Friday.

Thanks for posting the above, Paul. Apologies, ladies and gentlemen, but for some reason internet access was not available to most of us in the press balcony, or should I say fridge, at Oakham, so blogging was impossible.
Poonia batted well and reinforced his claim for a place in the team at Gloucester on Friday, Frost and Botha pulled the innings round intelligently late on and the seamers, in their brief outing, bowled accurately and, in Carter's case, with impressive hostility.

The Ireland game was a bit of a bonus for me .... after the rescent one day dross, I made no plans to attend this game and had chosen to spend the day doing other things. Therefore for once the weather didn't upset me.

However - once again we defended a very small total yesterday with a bit of help from Mr DL.

Team for Friday? I'd go Poonia, Powell, Trott, Troughton, Frost, Westwood, Botha, Carter, Anyon, Tahir, Donald.

Keep up to date
