Good morning ladies and gentlemen.

It's a strange sort of a morning at Edgbaston - dry but cloudy-ish, neither bright nor dull really, neither warm nor cold and sort of, but not properly humid. Sort of 'mungy', if you see what I mean.

Play will start on time.

Good news. We understand that no Warwickshire players got injured over breakfast.

Don't speak too soon, my vole in the Bears dressing room (he used to work at Worcester where water-tolerance is, of course, a must) tells me there may have been an incident over the breakfast table in the pavilion.

A home batsman unwisely used a grapefruit knife to open a small pot of traditional English marmalade.

I believe the player is unharmed, at least physically, but the table is being treated with a smear of varnish on its tarnished surface.
