"It's hard to say really"

By Brian Halford on May 7, 08 05:01 PM

Derbyshire 213 for 7 (79 overs). Clare 35, Langeveldt 0.

Lungley had just reached his maiden first-class fifty in eight years of trying when Maddy came back on and swung one in to gain the fifth lbw decision of the day.

A seventh-wicket stand of 81 has partially bailed out Derbyshire but the Bears are still on top. The pitch has pace in it and there's some swing but it looks a decent batting track.

I have just asked my esteemed colleagues in the press box what they think a par score is for this track. They all demurred except one who came down off the fence with an emphatic: "It's hard to say really".

Nope! (I did try to answer earlier but it must have disappeared into the ether. The wi-fi's hit-and-miss up here!)
