The international cricketer, 2008-style.
Kevin Pietersen on the Indian Premier League.
"Chris Gayle texted me the other day to ask me why I'm not playing and I said, 'I can't'. He just sent dollar signs in the next text message. I'm not being paid extra playing for Hampshire while he'll be copping a hundred grand a game."
Also...
"I won't jeopardise my England career for the IPL just yet."
Just yet?
Are we meant to be grateful for that?

I guess money talks. I can't really blame Peterson for his comments as he's just being honest. The IPL could signal the end of central contracts. If in the future it doesn't conflict with the international schedule then I don't see a problem with our players earning some extra $$$$$.
The ramifications for our county game is another matter. County cricket can't compete with the IPl or the ICL and so I think our domestic competitions will suffer.
If the ecb give these indian leagues an inch they will take a mile. They should say to england's players play in these leagues and you will never play for england again. Make it all or nothing. Take the dollars and lose your whole international career. If any of them love the dollars that much they are no loss.
Bet Jack Hobbs and Len Hutton never sent a text in their lives. The whole game's gone to pot.
KP should follow my lead and play for peanuts (geddit?)
Get ready for the storm ...... Oppotunities and Threats. Do we have a plan ? Probably not.... just head in the sand sort of blue sky thinking :-o
Anyway.... talking of storms..... did the snow stop us getting underway against Worcs at Edgbaston today ?
You have been proved been right again, Mr Halford!
If a man can trade in his South African roots for an England badge of convenience, then why wouldn't he sell his soul to the Indian League and take their dosh?
There's only one Ian Bell!
Well the answer is yes.... ;-)
Early reports indicate Worcs 84-4 off 19 overs.
I dont blame Pietersen for his honesty or his financial motivations.
I shall snort with derision, however, the next time an England player says he's tired because of too much cricket.
Ladies and gentlemen, apologies for no updates from Edgbaston today. Am not there, instead manacled to office on urgent administrative duties, eg. photocopying the sports editor's tie.
Will be reporting from The Parks tomorrow and wednesday.
I was interested to see Kevin Pietersen clutching the Olympic torch yesterday. What are three main planks of the Olympics? Excellence, patriotism and participation for the love of it. And here, carrying the flame, is a mediocre sportsman who turned his back on his country and now might well turn his back on a second country in order to fill his bank account!
Has anybody seen Mr Osborne?
